Protect & Repair: A Gentle Summer Reset for Your Skin and Nervous System

Summer in Minnesota can feel like a deep exhale....longer days, more sunlight, more movement, more life. And it can also be the season where your skin quietly starts asking for support.
If you’ve noticed your face feeling a little hotter, more reactive, more congested, or more dehydrated than usual… you’re not imagining it. Summer can be beautiful, but it can also be a lot on your skin and on your nervous system.
Why summer can throw your skin off balance
In my treatment room, summer skin often shows up like this:
Dehydration that hides under “shine” (your skin looks glowy, but feels tight).
More sensitivity or redness after sun + heat + wind.
Congestion from sweat, sunscreen, and being on the go.
A routine that gets inconsistent because life is fuller (travel, weddings, kids home, late nights).
And when your schedule gets louder, your nervous system often does too.
That matters, because stress and overstimulation can show up on the skin as inflammation, reactivity, and that “I can’t get my skin to calm down” feeling.
My summer approach: Protect & Repair
I’m not a fan of forcing your skin into submission; especially in summer.
Here are a few gentle ways I recommend supporting your skin right now:
1) Protect your barrier like it’s part of your self-care
Summer skincare doesn’t need to be complicated.
The goal is steady support:
cleanse gently (especially at night)
hydrate consistently
keep your routine simple enough that you’ll actually do it.
2) Choose “calm” over “more”
If your skin is feeling reactive, this usually isn’t the season to add a bunch of new actives at once. When in doubt, I like to return to the basics and focus on comfort.
3) Let your skincare routine become a nervous system cue
Even one minute can matter. Slow your hands down. Breathe while you cleanse.
Let your evening routine be a signal to your body: we’re safe, we can soften now.
When you want beautiful glow and a deeper reset
If your skin has been feeling hot, overwhelmed, or out of rhythm, a facial can be a gentle way to come back into balance.
My facial rituals are designed to be results-driven and deeply restorative. They support your skin's hydration, barrier comfort, and provide your nervous system with a grounded feeling that lingers long after you leave.
If you’re looking for a facialist in Coon Rapids, MN, I’d love to care for you this summer!
If you're not sure what facial to book, you can also reach out and tell me what your skin has been doing lately (tightness, congestion, redness, sensitivity). I'll guide you towards the best fit for your skin and your nervous system.
With Care,
Julia
